2008 Summer School

East Side: Salem High School
West Side: Covington High School
Registration: May 29, 2008
8:00 a.m. until noon
Parent is required to attend
Session 1: June 2-June 27, 2008
Session 2: June 30-July 28, 2008
Pre-registration for all on-line courses

Registration:

Obtain an "Authorization for Summer School Work" form and obtain required signatures.

May earn up to one credit per session

Fee is $140 per semester course: traditional, BOT, or credit recovery

Drops prior to the 4th day may request a refund of $100. Drops after the 4th day result in no refunds.

Pre-registration for BOT courses only:

  • Covington HS-Wednesday, May 21-3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
  • Salmen HS-Thursday, May 22-3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Traditional Summer School:
Only 2 absences allowed. Classes meet Monday through Friday. May take repeat credit only.

Back On Track:
Internet connection required. May work on-line from home. Testing at the school site required every Friday. Failure to submit lessons will result in student not being able to test weekly and/or being dropped from course. Freshmen may not enroll in ELA or MATH through BOT. Sophomores must have school official's recommendation to repeat any core courses through BOT. Elective credit is recommended. Repeat/Delete options for TOPS are also recommended using BOT courses. All new credit must have principal's signature.

Credit Recovery:
Repeat credit only. Self paced course using computer assisted instruction. Testing at the school site. Proficiency test given at the end of the course. Grade of "C" is highest grade which can be earned.


Louisiana Virtual School:
Free. Testing at the school site. Register prior to the end of spring semester with high school guidance counselor. New credit option. Prinicipal must approve.

Behavior: If a student is removed from Summer School because of behavior, no fees will be refunded.

Vacations: Will not be excused.

Dress Code: Same requirements as during regular school session.

Office Staff: Will not be available for messages or deliveries.

Bell Schedule: Bells will be in operation. The schedule will be strictly FOLLOWED. Each period is one hour and thirty minutes long with a ten minute break in between.

1st period 7:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m. 1 hr. 30 minutes
Break 9:00 a.m.-9:10 a.m. 10 minutes
2nd Period 9:10 a.m.-10:40 a.m. 1 hr. 30 minutes
Break 10:40 a.m.-10:50 a.m. 10 minutes
3rd Period 10:50 a.m.-12:20 p.m. 1 hr. 30 minutes
