FIVE-YEAR CAREER PLAN
Beginning in the 1998-1999 school year, by the end of eighth grade, each student shall develop, with the input of his family, a Five-Year Plan. Such a plan shall include a sequence of courses which are consistent with the student’s stated goals for one year after graduation. Students are strongly encouraged to select a career major and include these requirements in their five-year plan. The course requirements for the career major shall consist of the following: at least 6 or more credits consisting of 4 credits in primary courses in an area of concentration and 2 credits in related courses including 1 credit in a computer technology course; courses will be selected to prepare a student for post secondary education and/or career. Students following the prescribed four-year course sequence for the chosen area of concentration will meet diploma endorsements and Career Option Law requirements. Further information on academies and Career Majors may be found on pages 20-24 of this guide. Students not pursuing a TOPS scholarship and/or admittance to a 4-year college/university may substitute an elective for the Foreign Language course(s).
