Slidell High Color Guard

The Slidell High School Color Guard is an award winning performance ensemble whose shows consist of flag, rifles, sabres and dance.   In the fall semester, they are an integral part of the marching band.  In the spring semester, the unit performs their Winter Guard show.  The Slidell High Color Guard is a member of the Louisiana-Mississippi Color Guard & Percussion Circuit, competing across both states.  They consistently receive superior ratings and high placements at festivals and competitions.

2016-17 Color Guard

The Slidell High Marching Band and Color Guard competed in The 27th Louisiana Showcase of Marching Bands State Championship at The University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The purpose of Showcase is to provide Louisiana's high school marching bands with an opportunity to perform and be recognized on a larger stage.  The Color Guard, the Drum Major and overall band received an EXCELLENT RATING.

The Slidell High Marching Band and Color  Guard competed in the Louisiana Music Educators Associations District VI Festival at Joeseph Yenni Stadium in Metarie . The Color Guard has worked extremely hard this year and they received a SUPERIOR RATING, which is the highest rating possible. The judges were extremely complimentary of their routine, costume and showmanship.  In addition to the Color Guard, the Drum Majors and overall band received a SUPERIOR RATING and the drum line received an EXCELLENT RATING.

Summer Camp June 19-23, 2016
This summer, seven members of the SHS Color Guard attended The University of Southern Mississippi All-South Drum Major and Guard Camp in Hattiesburg, MS. This was the Color Guard’s first year attending this camp. While attending camp, the girls participated in flag, rifle, dance, leadership and routine construction classes. Class levels ranged from “Beginner” to “Advanced.”

Camp Attendees: Hannah, Courtney, Makayla, Tori, Nekhia,  Destiny and Mara.

Awards Received:
•     Mara received the “Most Improved Flag Award”
•     Hanna received the “Outstanding Flag Award”
•     Courtney received the “Outstanding Rifle Award”
•     Tori was “Runner Up for Solo/Ensemble”
•     Officers Hannah, Makayla and  Courtney won “Best  Ensemble”
•     Hannah, Courtney, Makayla & Tori were invited to perform in the “All American Citrus Bowl” in Orlando, FL
•     SHS Color Guard received the “Team Spirit Award”

When you see these athletes around school, please congratulate them, not only on a job well done, but also on their perseverance through those hot summer days.
