In this course students will learn about the duties, rights, and responsibilities of U. S. citizens. Students will examine the Constitution and Bill of Rights and learn how our local, state, and federal governments are set up.
Civics-Honors (2120 S)

Recommendation course
In this course covers the same material as Civics: however, the in-depth study of selected topics will include readings, discussions, case studies, and guest speakers. Critical thinking and writing skills will be emphasized.
Civics-Gifted (7630 S)

This survey course includes an examination of the role of the American citizen in a democratic society, stressing the historical foundations of our democratic form of government. The student will incorporate in-depth readings, research, critical analysis of historical events, in-depth discussions, simulations, and dramatizations. With the completion of the course, the student should be aware of his/her importance as a functioning member of a democratic society.
Free Enterprise (2280 S)

This course is a general survey of the American free enterprise system including basic economy theory and practice. Economic concepts, including resources, market, supply and demand, profit, etc., will be emphasized.
Free Enterprise Honors (2570 S)

The course will combine aspects of the study seminar with the traditional educational approach. The course will survey capitalism and other economic systems through the use of in-depth readings and discussions, case studies, critical analysis, and simulations.
American Government and Cultural Literacy (2340 S)

In this course, students will study and discuss the American political system and major contemporary issues affecting the United States. A variety of sources including a textbook, Cable News Network, magazines, videos, and newspapers will be used.
American Government - Gifted (7645 S)

This course provides students with the analytical skills and factual knowledge necessary for functioning citizens in a democratic society. Through the use of a variety of materials and activities, students will describe, analyze, and explain the political process in America, and gain an understanding of the ways in which the behaviors of individuals at the government level and those of ordinary citizens help to formulate government policies. The course will highlight both the achievements of the American political system and the shortcomings that bring the political system under pressure today.
