Geometry
Geometry (2890 A – 2900 B)
Grades 10, 11
1 year
Prerequisite: Algebra I Recommended: “C” average or better in Algebra I
This course includes the structure of geometric relationships in a plane; properties of angles and perpendicular lines; methods of reasoning and types of proof used in geometry; recognition and application of theorems about parallel lines and planes; identification of polygons and their properties; identification of congruent triangles and their properties; the property of similarity; the characteristics of right triangles; the characteristics of a circle and development of proofs related to circles, perimeters, area, and volume of geometric figures; and the use of constructions.
Geometry – Honors (2950 A – 2960 B)
Grades 10, 11
1 year
Prerequisite: Algebra I with a “B” average or better in Algebra I (H) or an “A: average in Algebra I
This course covers all topics discussed in an average geometry class but more emphasis is placed on proofs and more complex exercises. Additional topics are loci, constructions, and coordinate geometry.
Geometry – Gifted (7691 A – 7692 B)
1 year
This course introduces the concepts of plane, space, solid, and transformational geometry. The links between algebra and geometry are explored in area theory and coordinate geometry. Deductive reasoning skills are sharpened through the writing of proofs. This course for the gifted is characterized by compaction, acceleration, in-depth study of concepts, as well as enrichment activities.
