Intro to Business Computer Applications (IBCA)

Lab fee: $5.00 per semester.
This course is designed to provide students with basic computer application skills. It includes the touch method of operating a computer keyboard to produce simple business documents. Computer technology will be presented to enhance the student’s ability to obtain certification in basic information technology. The IC Certification includes: Part I Computing Fundamentals (hardware); Part II Key Applications (Word and Excel): and Part III Living Online (Internet use). Students will be provided with the opportunity to take the IC exams ($25 each - current price, all three parts to be passed within a 90-day period).
Business Computer Applications I (4510 A)

Prerequisite: “C” or better average in IBCA (A & B)

The course continues the investigation of and practice toward mastery of the Word Core and Excel Core Competencies in preparation for the Microsoft Office Specialist certifications. The optional exams cost $38 each; the student may use the testing station at school. Students may also study for the Expert level exams. Topics include use of the software features to produce many types of business reports and charts.
Business Computer Applications II (4520 B)

Prerequisite: “C” or better average in BCA
The course continues the investigation of and practice toward mastery of the Excel Expert and Access (database) competencies in preparation for the Microsoft Office Specialist certifications. Students may also study for the Outlook exam. The optional exams cost $38 each; the student may use the testing station at school. Topics include the use of the software to organize data and prepare many common types of reports.
Multimedia Productions (5780 A)
Grades 10, 11, 12

Prerequisite: “C” or better average in IBCA (A & B)
The course includes preparation for the Microsoft PowerPoint certification ($38), and a brief introduction to HTML and web page design using Macromedia Dreamweaver. It combines text, graphics, sound, animation, and video delivered by computer or other electronic means. The course focuses on the systematic design and development of effective, efficient, and appealing visual productions. Students plan and design production sequences, then use computer-based authoring/multimedia software to deliver the production. A student cannot get credit for this course and Multimedia Productions.
Multimedia Productions (5781 B)

Prerequisite: “C” or better in Multimedia Productions A
This semester focuses on preparation for webmastering with more instruction in HTML, web design, Site Development Foundations, Internet Business Foundations, and Network Technology Foundations. Students who complete this course are eligible for the Web Design class in their senior year.
Web Design (5782 S)

Recommendation Course: Two teachers, at least one a computer teacher, and interview with the Webmaster Prerequisite: “B” or better average in Computer Muiltimedia Presentations A and B and/or PowerPoint Certified and recommended Computer Science I.
Seniors may take this course in the fall to qualify for webmastering in the spring semester.
Concepts of web communication will be studied and explored. Students will design, develop, and maintain web pages using appropriate current editors and/or tagging languages. Students will demonstrate technical knowledge of the equipment and an ability to use a variety of input devices, file formats and transfer methods. Students will gain proficiency in the use of the various browsers used to navigate the web and will study connectivity issues as needed.
Computer Science I (5680 A)
Microsoft Visual Basic 5.0
Grade 10, 11, 12
1 semester elective
Students will apply programming concepts to a visual environment using Microsoft Visual Basic. Students will create more professional looking programs by using the more advanced user interface capabilities of Visual Basic. Topics include intrinsic and actives controls, multiple forms, common dialogs, data controls, menus and more complex code structures. Students will be expected to complete several projects throughout the semester.
