Freshmen Academy (9th grade)
- Implemented to ease the transition from junior high to high school
- Teachers and students divided into teams
- Students share the same English, math, science and social studies teachers.
-Teachers stay with Academy team the entire year.
- Teachers meet several times per week to discuss progress of their students
- Identify weaknesses and address problems
-Motivation, Attendance, Behavioral, Academic
- Meet with parents if necessary
- Meet with Counselor and Administrators if necessary
- Collaborate to help insure success of all 9 th grade students on their team
- Based on Positive Behavior Support
–3 R’s – Respect, Responsibility, Resolution
-Assigned student to Study Hall to complete work
-Peer tutoring
-Credit Recovery – make up core classes online
- Organization is big key to success of Freshman
- Provided a Tiger Planner
-Used in each core class and electives
-Monitored and graded weekly
- Dedicated lots of energy and resources to implementation of Freshman Academies
- Freshman teachers have embraced process
- Has created a student-oriented philosophy of working with all parties involved
- Pilot year is a great success.
