The PSAT helps prepare students to take the SAT or ACT, and the great thing about the PSAT is that a high score can also open the door to National Merit Scholarships and other awards. $180 million dollars in scholarships is awarded to students who achieve high scores on the PSAT. The only time the test counts for a potential scholarship is when it is taken in the Junior year. Sophomores may take the PSAT for practice.
Sign-up with Ms. Lillis in guidance by September 29th. The cost is $16.00; checks made payable to Slidell High or exact amount of cash. Testing will be held on campus during the regular school day on Wednesday October 19th.

This year Slidell High’s Allied Health department will be hosting two blood drives. The first will be next Friday, October 7th and the second will be March 10th. Last year the Blood Center made some changes to encourage blood drives at the schools:
They are offering scholarships, which are given directly to the schools, based on the number of pints received. Last year, we received $1750.00 for one blood drive! We used the money in our SHS Cares fund to help our students. If you know of someone needing assistance, please let me or Lynne Siebenkittel know.
Another benefit is that all faculty members, whether you donate or not, will receive up to $2000.00 blood assurance coverage per year. If you would like to donate during your planning period, we take you as soon as you arrive and you will be able to get to your next class on time. Please remember you must have an ID with you.
Every pint of blood saves 3 lives!
Thank you so much for your help in making this blood drive a success.
